So yesterday I did my individual maths and I wanted to share a quick division problem I did!
So starting off with the equation 360 ÷ 5
I already know that I cannot figure that out in quick maths so I decided to do the strategy long division. I start by putting the 5 on the outside and the 360 on the inside. So how much does 5 fit in 1? It’s not possible so we add the number 6 in. How much do 5s fit in the number 36? 7, so we bring the 7 up, and because 5 x 7 = 35, we then go 36 – 35 = 1, bring down the 0 and we have a number of 10!
How much 5s in 10 ? 2, so we bring the 2 up to the 7 which makes 72. So 5 x 2 = 10 and then 10 – 10 equals 0. So we end up with the number 72 and that is the answer to our equation.
